Monsoon Accessorize

In a reversal of the established click and collect concept, fashion retailer Monsoon Accessorize has launched trials of a scheme in which shoppers can buy in-store and have the product delivered to their home.

It’s based around iPad tablet computers that are being issued to staff in ten pilot stores. Using these, staff can look up products that interest shoppers, but might not actually be in stock at that location. If the required product is found, the shopper can then buy it on the spot and have it delivered to their home or to another convenient store in the network.

The interesting part is that the system is said to search all possible locations for each item, including shop floor, store room, other stores and the company’s e-commerce distribution centre.

It has been developed by Micros, using the developer’s Retail Assistant system, and is said to be the first of its kind to be fully integrated with the store’s point-of-sale system, allowing the transaction to be completed through the POS system, using a wireless chip and PIN device.

The order can be combined with other in-store purchases, all of which are paid for together. The iPads will also be used by staff in changing rooms for on-the-spot stock checks, saving them from having to leave the customer and risk losing a sale.

The first trial location was the store in Cardinal Place, Victoria Street in London, and nine other stores were due to follow.

Monsoon and Accessorize have more than 350 stores in the UK and Eire, and more than 1,090 locations in 71 international markets.
