The latest version of the Oracle Retail software suite (version 14) bring omni-channel functionality very much to the fore. The company says the suite aims help retailers offer customers commerce anywhere in a targeted, profitable and efficient manner.

The list of new features makes the emphasis clear. For instance, it includes new operational and planning processes that aim to allow customers to buy, pick up or return items via any channel. It is also said to equip retailers to fulfil demand without channel constraints, using built-in functionality to provide efficiencies and profit gains.

At its heart is a single "inventory master", which aims to make inventory visible and accessible 24 hours a day across channels for both consumers and employees. Among benefits, this is said to make it easier for customers to purchase items no matter where inventory resides.

Its features include online store-level inventory visibility, real-time inventory lookup for items in another store, support for orders and "take-with" items in the same transaction, and support for returning purchases from any channel.

The suite also adds new support for multiple in-store ordering devices, including mobile point of service (POS), tablet POS, assisted selling tools and better visibility.

There is a new dashboard to allow monitoring and management from a single point, helping retailers to identify transaction volumes, average response times and errors.
